Kinetisense is the most advanced 3D motion tracking software available today. It allows our physiotherapist and sports therapists to immediately analyse the patients posture, range of motion and functional movements all in real time. We are very excited to be the first clinic in Edinburgh, Scotland to be using this amazing piece of equipment.
At Move Freely we use Kinetisense as a digital based assessment system, the cutting edge technology creates 3D pictures of your ability to move and your posture. This helps us identify problem areas and facilitates tracking progress through your rehabilitation. Reporting is used to help develop plans to improve performance as well as identify any increased risk of injury or pain.
Kinetisense 3D Posture
Kinetisense 3D Posture is a markerless software program designed to analyze and quantify posture. The system automatically locates the joint position, interprets the data, and produces a detailed 3D Posture report. Baseline posture assessments can be done to identify asymmetries and demonstrate the impact clinical treatment has on postural outcomes. This module is an efficient and objective way to analyze the frontal, sagittal, and transverse planes in the body
Why use 3D Posture?
The Kinetisense system automatically locates 48 locations on the body using inferred sensors. Without the use of markers and the need to use a posture grid, Kinetisense eliminates the possibility of subjective assessment.
With the use of a single front-facing sensor, Kinetisense identifies the relationship between the planes and joint positions in the body. Practitioners can use this data to educate their patients and develop the most effective treatment plan possible.
The reporting feature allows practitioners to easily compare multiple assessments. In one report Practitioners and patients are able to track progress from treatment to treatment.
KINETISENSE 3D RANGE-OF-MOTION
Kinetisense 3D Range-of-Motion is the first full body assessment system that systematically measures joint by joint. The user-friendly interface makes it the ideal tool to track and document progress throughout your rehab.
The Kinetisense Range of Motion system allows us to analyse over 40 joint ROMs of the body in Real-Time. The system repeatedly captures the same anatomic landmarks for every assessment and measures joint range-of-motion in real-time. Throughout a prescribed rehabilitation protocol, joint analysis can be used pre treatment, throughout the protocol and post treatment, tracking progress throughout the entire process. Visually, the kinetisense system will upload all data into a conclusive report, easily available for your review.
Kinetisense 3D Functional Movement
Kinetisense 3D Functional Movement analyses a patient’s functional capacity for work and leisure-related activities. Evaluation captures extension, flexion, and body rotation. Applications include functional capacity evaluation and sport specific movement assessment including squats, lunges and almost any standing movement you can think of. The markerless software program is designed to give objective data on functional movements to show asymmetries in the body. The Kinetisense software automatically locks onto joints and takes a video of a patient performing movements such as an overhead squat and gives objective data on how the movement is performed.
WHY USE 3D FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT?
Functional assessment has taken over the fitness industry. Clients not only appreciate a baseline functional test, but are demanding this as the fitness paradigm of functional training continues to evolve. A good functional baseline test should be objective, efficient and engaging for both the trainer and the client. Move Freely and Kinetisense has forever revolutionized the way that fitness trainers will assess and train their clients. With the Kinetisense Functional Movement System, clients can be assessed at their initial visit with a variety of different tests including the overhead squat, the inline lunge, the broad jump and the palloff press, just to name a few.
We can have our patients perform any functional movement with Kinetisense and can use the built-in video analysis and screen capture components of this system during and after the movement has been performed. We have the option to take a video of the assessment and play it back in real time, slow motion, or sped up for a more thorough analysis of the movement/joint positioning. The client can see themselves on the screen in real-time, meaning that they can make the appropriate corrections while they are performing the movement. It is easy to see how Kinetisense is much more than an analysis tool, it is also a valuable training tool by providing immediate biofeedback.
KINETISENSE 3D BALANCE
Kinetisense 3D Concussion is an objective balance assessment tool for concussion management. The system allows users to quantify the biomechanics of balance, before and after a suspected concussion or mTBI (traumatic brain injury) occurs. The baseline screen is a modified version of the Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) test, a postural stability protocol commonly used for concussion monitoring. Kinetisense objectifies the BESS scoring system by applying 3D motion capture and computer learning to produce a balance score.
Why use 3D balance?
GERIATRIC RISK OF FALL ASSESSMENT
Research has shown that the risk of falling dramatically increases with age and factors such as poly pharm (multiple medication use) has been shown to be a predictor of falls. The effects of a fall in the elderly can have severe consequences and can even lead to death. Until now practitioners have struggled with the subjectivity of “eyeballing” the balance of their patients. The balance information provided by the Kinetisense system gives insight into the proper medication prescription and schedule. Objective balance assessment of the elderly will not only reduce the risk of falls, it will also aid in the assurance of a healthy and vital lifestyle in our aging population.
The Kinetisense Balance Assessment can ideally be used to find a patient’s “normal”. With this information, a clinician can decide if interventions are necessary if a high fall risk is present. However, if a patient has fallen already, the Kinetisense Balance Assessment can be used to find the patient’s current post injury status that can be used as a comparison measure throughout a rehabilitation protocol to objectively track progress or regression. Re-assess and compare as often as needed in order to track balance progression.

Generally, when someone suffers a concussion, dizziness, headaches, sensitivity to light and fatigue are the most prevalent set of symptoms. The Kinetisense Balance Assessment for concussion management requires the patients to complete the balance protocol with their eyes closed which takes away their perception of where they are in space, off putting balance. When those concussion symptoms are present, the lack of a visual field will generally increase their overall sway which can be objectively analysed with the Kinetisense system.
These symptoms can be monitored by the administering clinician and tracked over a period of time with the reproducible Kinetisense balance assessment
